; About YJC, Seaview and Hendon
Hi. So I mentioned on twitter that August would be a blast for me.

Probably because I planned my Off days in such a way that IF NOTHING WENT WRONG I would not need to return to camp from the 9th to 21st August. Yes I know. 12 days. I've gotta be shitting you right? Apparently not, its possible but only one or two guys managed to in the end. Here's what went wrong.

9th of August. Our glorious National Day. 3 people from my battery (something like a 'department' in my unit) has to do guard duty. Usually these people are rewarded with a 1 day off in lieu (Which is really quite a big deal) So the thought process in my head was like "Okay edison you've already planned for 12 days off how's 1 day of doing guard going to affect you? Besides you get 1 off day and 10th of August is not a forced off. Volunteer!" WRONG. 10th of August was later announced as a forced off. Also, I am notified that 15th 16th 17th theres going to be marching rehearsals for a huge event where my Chief of Artillery is doing a handover parade so all Offs are CANCELLED.

You see how fast I went from a Cunning-Off-Planning-Genius to a Dafuq-Just-Happened-Why-Am-I-Suddenly-Left-With-So-Litt-kinda situation.

But ohwells I took things in my stride.
SAF School Partnership Programme (National Day) at Yishun Junior College
Then came 8th August, which was the day 24SA (My unit) would go over to Yishun Junior College to celebrate National Day with them as part of a SAF School Partnership programme. (And the day i was supposed to book out for my 12 day break which eventual -oh shut up)

WOKE UP AT 4AM!

(All photo credits to 24SA Facebook and ジョ アン)

Was part of the parade in the morning, where we joined the YJC and YSS uniformed groups in their usual NDP routine.

My sergeant pulled me down with him for this Sing-along-session on the tracks in front of THE WHOLE SCHOOL. But it was fun, and somehow it wasn't embarrassing because...well...It's like we popped out of the National Day Poster and joined in.

I was part of the weapon display team, with the GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun) as my station.
Basically just taught 14-17 year olds how to carry and hold a 11.6kg huge ass gun.

Trust me, I know what i'm doing. Haha.
And yeah theres all that hoo-ha about the photo I took together with the 3 YJC girls and was tagged in. My sergeant 'offered' me into the photo ok haha and I gamely followed. But they're all nice people. If it weren't for them I wouldn't have any photos to take away from the event.
Gryphon Battery Cohesion
13-15 August was my Battery's Cohesion! It's something like 'Family-Day' only that its for the Battery.
We had a chalet at SAF Seaview Resort
^ It's damn nice right? This is the back of the chalet, didn't manage to take the front

^ This is the standing from where all the BBQ pits are.

^ Behind me is this huge drop to a beautiful beach.

^ Shooting up from the beach

^ Inside the chalet

^ Don't you just love spiral staircases?

^ Literally Seaview

This is easily one of the best chalets in Singapore. But it's only open to booking by SAF Regulars I heard.
So we had a great time playing games like balloon popping (Where you tie balloons on your feet and people rip it off) and Handball!

Everything went perfectly that day.

Then we had BBQ

This was probably the 2nd BBQ I had in a day cos in the morning I ate Korean BBQ with my bunk mates before going for the chalet. Thus I didnt eat alot.

Slept earlier compared to everyone else because I thought there was still activities tmr.

So so wrong.

Games the next day was cancelled because everyone didn't have enough sleep.

My jaw dropped so low I felt the sand from the beach on the chalet floor.

In the end I went to buy Roti Prata breakfast for everyone at the chalet with Martin, Guosheng, Jordan and Zhanrui.

The place wasn't far and the Prata Bomb was damn nice. Martin also told us his experience with the supernatural. All the way back to the chalet.

THEN AT THE CHALET I REALISED MY WALLET WAS MISSING.

11B, Civilian Driving License, Military Driving License, ATM Card, Monopoly S$100 Free Movie Pass. All Inside!

I panicked and I rannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn all the way back to the Roti Prata place at top speed.
Scene at the Roti Prata shop was quite funny now that I recall it.

*Speeds into shop and brakes at the counter*

I said "Hello"

"Yes? Prata?" (Brilliant sales technique you see how they open the conversation with their product name)

"No Im looking for my wallet. Did you see it? Brown leather wallet"

"Umm No, No, Nope don't see any wallet. *Turns arnd* EH (insert random indian name in caps) WALLET HAVE? NO? NO? Sorry sir, no"

"Okay, so...I can give you my number, call me if you find anything."

*Gives me their shop name card and smiles*

"Nono, is there anywhere I can write my handphone number so you can call me?"

"OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Then he gives me a pen.

Adorable bunch of prata flipping dudes. Not a care in the world.

So, dejected, I walked back to the chalet. My phone was off. Switched it on. Cos Jordan might call to check on my situation. Suddenly an unknown number called and "Hi is this Edison? This is calling from the Hendon Camp guard house. We have your wallet one of our guys picked it up"

HOLY SHEET MY WALLET IS IN THE NEARBY COMMANDO CAMP.

Together with Jordan, Martin and Guosheng we walked (Then cabbed) all the way to the camp of the commandos where a couple of red beret guys were sitting in the guard room.

They found my number because I had my personal name card in the wallet.

What a crazy end to the chalet. (Yes it ended, cos the 2nd part was for comma
nders)

Brilliant half of August. Brilliant.

; Donuts or Pretzels
Being in the right place, at the right time.

Saying the right words, at the right moment.

Choosing the right person, for the right job.

Picking the donut, over the pretzel.

We can all identify with the abovesaid situations though the last one's abit controversial, obviously - because I always choose the pretzel. Auntie Anne's got lovely pretzels. That. And we're not policemen in an american movie.

Our life is practically run by decisions that we make, and while some might be simple - like whether grabbing a cup of coffee might ruin that afternoon nap you so crave. Others require much consideration, because they affect your future - Like whether its a better idea to work first or study. (Yes that's one of the decisions im dealing with now..Thoughts?)

To a certain extent, its hardly fair. Some people do better in their lives, partly due to sheer dumb luck. Being at the right place at the right time is an unspoken skill. Opportunities sprout out from the ground randomly, as random as the minds of the very people that give them. Walk into the office while your superior is choosing a person for a prestigious job and you automatically become the best candidate because you materialised infront of him, just as he thought of you. Run past a camera at a marathon, flashing a perfectly timed smile, cameraman posts you to Flickr and boom - Ridiculously Photogenic Guy meme on 9GAG.

But seriously though.

Donuts or Pretzels?

; I hate awkward silences
I hate awkward silences. Oh i’m just repeating the title. But aren’t awkward silences like really awkward? No shit. For example - You’re standing on a MRT with your friends, two of which aren’t really friends because you’ve technically just met them, thus you’re acquaintances. Wait, there are only 3 people including yourself, so - Ok so you’re standing on a MRT with 2 acquaintances you’ve just met, and for god knows what reason nowadays the ice breaker is ALWAYS, “Sooo, what school were you previously from?” Always. And the person will go like “XYZ School.” You immediately give off an involuntary “Ohhhhhh..” But really your mind is racing through your mental ‘friend list’, hoping you’d find a mutual friend from that school. Damn. None. Fun facts you’ve heard about that school? Damn. None. That school really sucks. 2 seconds, 4 seconds, 5 seconds. Too late. You’ve just entered a conversation limbo. You smile. They smile. The man behind you gave up his seat to an old lady. You learn from an ad that goldfishes have only 3 seconds of memory. Wow the pole seems awfully shiny today. You realise you’re actually looking for something interesting around you to talk about. You take out your phone. No messages. Nevermind, act like there is. Will he notice i’m pressing only the A S D J K L area? Shit my screen dimmed down ‘cause I wasn’t actually typing. Go to tumblr. Type a post about awkward silences and post it later. “Tampines.” What? “Tampines.” Hah! Thank them for the silence and leave the train. Done.

; Back to camp, some irrelevant stuff, and Oh!..Ellen!
So this week has been a whirlwind of activities. Moved back to Khatib Camp after a 1 month stay out, dusted my bunk, placed back all my belongings, said hi to people I missed, people I didnt miss, people I wish they’d give me a miss, and of course, my 32 inch plasma TV. It was fun catching up with everyone and it seemed as though they had sincerely looked forward to our return.
So many things have changed! Mainly the tons of new faces walking about (New sergeants), new rules i’d love to hate, my bunk’s new broken door, and my tolerance for incorrigible people. Let’s talk about the sergeants first. Jolly bunch of fellows really. Seemingly nice, new to their surroundings and pretty much like how we were when we first passed out from our course. One of them’s a good friend as well! But like every old-friend-starts-work-at-your-company-as-your-superior scenario, you dont really know if there are boundaries present you cant cross or whether there are other people around that already regarded him as their new bestest friend.
Ah and on to incorrigible people. Lazy ones still work hard to stay hidden from chores. Delusional ones are still the centre of their own attention. Self-centered people still stand in the centre of the room. Isn’t it tiring to judge people? I find it really tiring. You spend lots of time sitting there playing Spot-The-Foul-Characteristic by yourself, and then you spend lots of energy exaggerating your “ORH HORRRR..!” after they finally screw up.
Recently i’ve also read “Seriously…I’m Kidding,” a book by Ellen Degeneres. Its so funny she writes the same way as she talks. It’s mainly about her random thoughts abt random stuff and some FYI knowledge about herself. Her writing style is so addictive I just had to follow it. It’s also available as an audiobook so you might want to check that out as well :)
I’ve got Battalion Cohesion tomorrow. Battalion Outing’s easier to understand actually. Cohesion. Lol. Cohesion. Fancy. Anyway yeah its a day where we do stuff together and bond as a huge group of army soldiers. Guess what we’re doing? Wrong! Wrong! No we cant all fit into an ice rink. Wrong! Give up? We’re going Dragonboating! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? You know what’s the best part? I’m not rowing! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Haha it’s probably cause I was at that driving course and well, they thought I’d be severely unfit for some apparent reason. SO.WRONG. But ohwells I’ll be there to witness it I think it’ll be quite interesting.

; The 'Wingman' Theory
Just a random thought…

Don’t you find it easier to talk to someone, if there isn’t a direct need to impress them?

We face alot of such situations where we stutter, panic and become nervous because of it.

Situations such as taking your driving test, performing on stage, going for a job interview, going for your first date etc…

But then if you think about it…

Have you ever tried to introduce your friend to a random (presumeably attractive) person and felt no sense of embarrassment doing so? (On the contrary, having quite alot of fun)

A wingman can easily approach a pretty lady at a bar and strike up a conversation without the slightest bit of awkwardness.

Why?

Because he doesn’t feel the pressure.

There is no need to impress this lady for his personal gain, because either way, his friend loses out, not him. All thoughts of being rejected, being seen as a jerk, are ignored because he’s doing it for a friend.

Definitely easier to perform as a ‘wingman’ than if you were actually attracted to her.

So…can ‘BEING’ the Wingman help overcome our everyday nerves? :/

; The Magical World of Harry Potter
Isn't it mindblowing knowing that the first book of Harry Potter was published in 1997?

In 1997 I wasn't even in Primary School yet.
In 1997 I just knew basic english words.
In 1997 I din't even know London existed

One fateful night in the year 2000 when I was Primary 3
My dad gave me a Floppy Disk (Haha yes FLOPPY DISK)
And in it contained the first 4 books of Harry Potter in Microsoft Word Form (That makes them the very first ebooks i've had!)

From that moment onwards, my magical journey started

I read it every single day, sitting, immobile, facing the old CRT monitor screen as though I'm a mannequin in my father's old office.

I had to change my spectacles two times in that year.

Come to think of it, I don't even know if my linguistic ability at that time was enough to fully comprehend every part of the story.

I had a dictionary

Then in 2001 came the first movie
A godsend...for we now have faces to match to the story
The characters
The buildings
The elements
The magic
All coming to life on the big screen

Easily, easily the best movie i've watched at that time. Thankful that they didnt do it with lousy CGI and bad acting.

And the rest...

...was history

We grew up with the plot, going through cycles of

1) Reading the book
2) Waiting for the movie for the previous book
3) Watching the movie for the previous book
4) Waiting for the movie for the current book after waiting for and finally receiving...
5) ...the new book

I never got disappointed with it.
However, the story got darker as evil grew stronger.

If the first few books of Harry Potter were a colourful picture, the story eventually made it black and white, then sepia, then Holga-ish.

Deaths, pain, suffering and anger became frequent

Beloved characters get murdered off, as we flip the pages back and forth, wide-eyed, hoping that it was all but just a cleverly written twist.

I got irritated with Harry Potter with his temper issues
Almost as if JK Rowling had problems with her CAPS LOCK key
Guess teen angst caught up with the boy who lived...

And Dumbledore was never the Santa Claus primary-school-me imagined him to be

As of 2011 the magical journey ended with Part 2 of the movie for the last book "The Deathy Hallows".

Fifteen years.

Fifteen years of waiting for a letter and a half-giant that never came
Fifteen years of waving random objects whilst shouting Latin words we never knew
Fifteen years of hoping that JK Rowling was a witch, writing about a real world.
Fifteen years of staring at objects, really hard, as if it'll actually levitate

And Fifteen years

Of an awesome childhood :)

The exhibition at the ArtScience Museum was amazing. I went on its Opening Day

It's made up of themed rooms from the movie, such as the Forbidden Forest, Hagrid's Hut, the Grand Hall etc.

Every room had a display of the movie props. From what they wore, to what they used, and even some models of the creatures in the show.

AND OMG MY FAVOURITE STATION WAS THE QUIDDITCH PITCH (ADHD me typed that). They had like real Quaffles (Like 4 or 5) for you to throw into the 3 goal posts. Every goal gives off a satisfying "Gonggg!" sound played by some hidden audio speaker.

Its really like those basketball games at the arcade where the ball keeps on rolling back and you keep throwing it. (Except that this one is free!)

Be careful though, the Quaffle ball is surprisingly heavy (made of leather), and missed shots bounce off the goal posts REALLY fast, and it can totally smash your face if you don't dodge.

(No there are no buldger stations, sadly)

Every Harry Potter fan would be amazed

Then comes the Harry Potter merchandise shop.

WANDS. Exact replicas of the real thing! Design, weight, length, feel, everything.

For example, Voldemort's wand was made of a material that was lighter than the rest, so the metal rod in it is much lighter.

Every character had a wand that was designed differently.

This is the set of 6 wands on sale. S$350 dollars.

Every wand for sale was S$75 individually, regardless of its design and 'owner.'

S$75!!

So tempting

Sirius Black, Snape, Voldemort, Bellatrix, Dumbledore (Elder Wand) and Ginny Weasley's wand designs were the coolest. (Seems like the bad guys have the coolest wands)

http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Wand See the designs here!

Not all are for sale in the Singapore exhibition though. So far only Bellatrix, Snape, Sirius, Harry, Ron, Malfoy, Hermione, Dumbledore, Ginny, Voldemort and Luna Lovegood's wand is for sale here.

Wand belonging to Fred and George, Percy, Remus Lupin and Narcissa (Malfoy's mum)'s and many others are displayed at the exhibition.

Photography and filming is strictly phohibited.

But cmon its such a rare opportunity how can you expect people to not sneak a few pictures.

Everyone was busy snapping away haha.

Please go visit this exhibit at the Artscience Museum! :D

It's only about S$20 for adults and S$13 for a kid. (Do not come dressed as a kid)

; Passed out from Trade Course!
5th March 2012

As of this date I can officially declare myself FATA trained and I am now part of the 24SA Family.

I cant say the course was too long, because my seniors had it worse, but it was definitely a challenge both mentally and physically.

Passing out from Ninja in BMT to this course honestly felt like Army was getting from bad to worse, but I'm glad to say I've perservered through the phases and I deserve the short rest from this lull period after trade course.

Unlike BMT, I actually gave a damn about this course. I tried my best in whatever I did and actually made effort to bond with my peers.

Achieved Best PT for this course and finished off in the Top 3 based on overall performance. I guess that's a bit of a consolation for not getting into Command School, at least I can tell myself my posting doesnt say anything about my qualities.

; 3rd Week into Trade Course
Yea as the title mentions, I'm into my 3rd week in my new vocation.

I can't say much about it because supposedly it's quite classfied.

However the training so far has been...well...not a walk in the park I guess...

Was half hoping that since i've been posted as a 'man' I would actually be compensated (hah) by some slack vocation which allows me to concentrate on things I wanna learn during free time.

Turns out this vocation is unique in its own way.

I'm not complaining of course.

Turns out i'm a totally different person in this new course compared to BMT.

More 'garang' I guess. I make it a point to involve myself in more stuffs now.

For the first time, I was even the course IC for 2 days.!

Basically i'm in charge of the 'platoon-sized' course for 2 days and make sure their on time for everything and give them commands during marching and falling in.

Something I definitely didn't experience in BMT.

I've also just completed 1 out of 4 outfields i'm going to experience. Not that bad...but It's going to be progressively more difficult so I have to mentally prepare myself for the best.

Honestly, although it isn't considered that tough compared to command school, there are times during this course where I ask myself...

Why am I being subjected to all these punishments?

Why am I still doing these despite being issued a 'man' position?

Why wasn't I given a vocation that allowed me time outside to learn new stuffs on my own and pursue my dreams

So many times i've asked myself these questions and in the 1st week I really had no motivation to go on...

Every book out was a godsend and the hours before book in was like hell, knowing i'm going back.

But I guess I've eventually woke up my idea after being the course IC.

I can go through this. Life will be better after I pass out.

I was also looking at this Music Video by Derrick Hoh.

For those who don't know him, he's actually one of the contestants of Project Superstar in 2005. Shortly after he won 2nd runner up in the competition he entered BMT.

How sucky is that feeling? Haha. Shooting to fame and then having to shave off all your hair in a few months and go into social hibernation.

It's always interesting to hear about another person's army journey, so I went to read the NS snippets of his blog.

I'm not sure what vocation he got posted to, but he still persued his music dreams and still worked on his album during the 2 years in NS.

He, like everyone else, also had to do guard duties and such, and also going for courses like what I am going through.

Though he's obviously living a very different life than me, i actually feel encouraged that although NS takes up a huge chunk of your 2 years, you still have the time to improve yourself and do what you can during the hiatus.

Right now he's a successful performing artist and even a damn good dancer now after training in Taiwan.

Inspirations. sigh

; BMT - The Epilogue
So!

Basic Military Training has come to an end on the 7 of January.

Went through one heck of a 24km march I must say.

Its almost never ending it seems. Time after time I tell myself "Okay after this few kilometres things are going to be alot more easier"

But nooooooooooo

There pops up the Singapore Flyer that never seems to get closer no matter how much you think you've walked.

Then you reach the checkpoint where you get your free 100plus and you think its over.

But nooooooooooo

You walk another few km to get to your sleeping point which is just a patch of road at where the F1 Village is during Formula 1. Never thought I'd be sleeping at where Adam Lambert was performing.

Ok Passing Out Parade was bearable. The adrenaline pumping through your blood is immense as you stare into the crowd.

And as they said "When POP comes, everything becomes possible"

Managed to stuff my Load Bearing Vest (That body-armour-like thingi) and my helmet into my over loaded field pack. And as of this moment..

I was declared a.....

Trained soldier.

Being posted into Ninja company for BMT wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be.

Sure, its dam strict with its rules and we don't get alot of admin time to do our own things.

But other than that, they are not unreasonable and we still win alot of competitions in the name of Ninja. :)

Needless to say, I've learnt alot in this 9 weeks.

Military and lifeskill lessons were taught everyday.

Some were in the syllabus while some were just observed by me.

Time passed surprisingly fast actually.

In a blink of an eye it has jumped from November to January.

Good...go faster.

My BMT wasn't as enjoyable as I would have hoped it'd be.

But its mainly because of how I chose to perceive it. Not that many did not enjoy it.

I didn't really get the whole sense of camaraderie I was supposed to feel.

Because I did not mix well with my bunk mates, nor received much of their support in tough times.

Guess i'm a different person in army? Haha. Not an army-person.

Well obviously I believe I didnt do well for my peer evaluation for that reason.

As as of Friday (13 Jan) I got to know my posting!

I am posted as a FATA Locator at the Artillery camp in Khatib.

Yes I believe it's a 'Man' position.

Not command school.

Bummed out? Yes I am. Because it supposedly hints that you're not command school material.

But hey

Who's to judge?

On the bright side

I heard my vocation is not that tough (Comparatively)

And I'll probably have more time to myself to do things that I want. Probably bring some things in to read or smth.

Little is known about my vocation though, and I believe it's classified.

Theres too much talent in this world seriously.

Just a quick search on Youtube and you'll find amazing singers.

Some just don't know how to market themselves.

Some of the good songs that I like are put on this blog for everyone (mainly me) to listen :)

Can sorta guess what kinda songs I like from there...

I wish I was hardworking enough to extract them to put into my itouch.

Enjoy!

; Reflections End of Week 5
In a blink of an eye, im about to embark on my 6th Week in Basic Military Training.

The recent few weeks after the confinement week passed fast, thankfully.

I got Silver for my IPPT, as well as passed the SOC (Obstacle Course) by completing it under 6 minutes. These were some of my notable achievements for the week.

Why was getting Silver a notable achievement?

I mean, I know I'm supposed to be of silver standard since I'm in the Enhanced batch.

But when I came in, I never knew my fitness was that bad. Haha..especially for Chin Ups.

They had to do those standard, straighten elbow, no leg tuck, no kicking or swinging shit so everything naturally gets tougher.

Im just happy to go from 3 to 8 in a few weeks to achieve my Silver :)

The Obstacle Course isn't exactly super difficult I must say, because as long as you can scale the low wall and the low rope, everything else is just up to your agility and technique.

I had a 'fear' problem with the Balancing Beam though.

Its this 45 degree sloping plank just about a feet wide, with metal strips (Spaced apart) on it.

You're supposed to just use the 'cutting' on the sole of your boots to hook on to those strips and walk up the freaking plank.

Sounds easy? Not exactly.

The whole course is practically muddy 24/7, which means friction is cut down by alot. Theres this nagging fear of slipping and falling on that beam that haunts you everytime you're on it.

One of my platoon mates actually slipped, fell, cut the bottom of his chin, and bled.

But the ones that found it easy just told us to 'trust the cutting of your boots'.

And so I did for once (During the test) And I got it over and done with.

Tomorrow (Monday 12 December) will be my first Field Camp.

Im sure many have already heard of it as one of the shittiest moments of BMT

Where your uniform is not green but brown

You're not just there to survive

But also to be tekan-ed by your commanders to strengthen and test you mentally and physically.

Honestly at this point of time

Though i'm already prepared for the worst, I really have no plans on how I can make it through mentally.

I know this period will definitely tide over, and I just need to wait a week.

But it's gonna be one hell of a week.

Heat rashes, insect bites, lack of sleep, unhygenic practices.

Yeah everything's gonna be pretty much a bitch.

Well I guess if the morale is high everything will be fine?

If your buddies support you and keep everyone happy everything will seem better.

But I really think I will not be able to depend on that....

The people in army have a totally different impression of me as compared to those who know me outside

Inside I get the feeling that i'm just 'one of the rest'

The one you should always look to correct because he's most probably doing it wrong.

How the hell did I get this stereotype?

I know it's an unspoken rule to give your 100% for everything you do.

But let's face it

People look for chances to be able to give 70%, 80% simply because they're tired.

And honestly speaking I'm not stupid enough to do stupid things right in the line of sight of the commanders.

And just because I look blur, i don't spam vulgarities or don't seem intimidating as the others, you can pick on me by correcting me all the time.

Give me a break, you're no perfect soldier yourselves

#Justsaying you know :) It just really pisses me off at times.

Field Camp's gonna be a period where everyone's true colours will show.

But I already seen everyone's true colours.

Lol why did I end that paragraph on such a serious note.

ANYWAY once this field camp is all over,

Things will be better I guess :)

(Despite the fact we're booking out on Saturday evening and booking in on Sunday evening)
And my Blackberry is finally fixed! The battery doesn't die as fast anymore! :D

However they gave me an entirely new set so my BBM PIN has changed as well.

Add me people with blackberries

; Confinement
Did most of this blog post on the Notepad app on my NS computer. Haha really making use of the extra time I have.

Sentence structure and the paragraphing also seems to be a problem as a result, haha but it's ok i guess.

Confinement week passed quite fast strangely.

Not that it was fun, but I guess the schedules were so packed and we're too busy to notice the time.

It was physically tiring definitely, when they kept spamming physical training and punishments. Mentally I really had a hard time staying strong as well because im seriously out of my comfort zone. (AND MY BATTERY DIED just 6 days into confinement)

People wise, I think my commanders (Sergeants and Officers) are generally reasonable people, and they know how to lighten up the mood at times.

As for my section mates...

They're not bad I guess.

But I still need some getting used to for some of the personalities I seldom encounter.

Other than that I also found some genuinely nice people in the platoon. Selfless people who help you no matter who you are.

I think being selfless is quite a rare trait in BMT. Everyone's putting their own safety and concern first on their list.

And I really dont stand out in BMT. Starting few days I was very quiet and grumpy I guess.

Not a very good impression I laid on others.

But I guess im here to learn these soft skills.

Day 1

08/11/11 The date I will never forget.

Last Macdonalds at White Sands.

Queueing up with other likely pre-enlistees at the interchange..

The mood was just so.....solemn

How long till I can see Singapore again?

Did I enjoy myself enough before NS?

Mind was full of regrets as I sat the bus to the Ferry Terminal

At Pulau Tekong we were separated from the people who came with us
to go settle some administration matters.

That was when I learnt which company I was assigned to.

They gave us a green sheet of paper for us to pass to our parents.

On the green sheet of paper under 'Company' I saw the alphabet I was
warned about

....N

Which actually stands for Ninja.

There were alot of rumours and hype about this particular company.

On how tough the training is, how strict the discipline is, and so on.

I was half praying that I wouldn't get into Ninja.

Not that I was afraid of the training but that alot of things wouldn't be allowed because of how strict it is.

But well...No matter how much 'touch wood' I did I still got it.

The last meal with our loved ones at the BMTC canteen was really quite sad. It's the 2nd time my grandma's sending one of her grandsons off for army. She was more familiar with the place than us.

Soon enough, it was time for our goodbyes, as we formed up on the Parade Square and walked off with our loved ones waving at us

....will it be long before I see them again?

17 days seems quite long..

Just a few hours into 'checking in' and we started collecting our
standard issue items.

Free equipment!

Was quite surprised with the quality of the items they issued

Well of course..they're from our tax :P

We then went back and were instructed to change in and out of our
uniform and attires.

To check if they fitted.

I really look stupid in the PT attire. Really dont suit singlets -.-

Thankfully for me, generally I had no problem with my stuff.

My buddy came in with Wave 2.

Nice guy..well..i think all of my bunk mates generally are (Thankfully)

The first night was difficult

Had difficulty sleeping in such a foreign place.

After fading in and out of short naps, it was time to wake up again..

Day 4

The past days were getting more and more intensive physical training wise

It was still Adjustment Week so the corporal punishments such as push ups and sit ups for being slow and not responsive were still not allowed.

I started to really get homesick by evening time..

Especially when we were learning all the army songs.

The was one particular song called "Cold Wind Blow"

One line was "I know I know, you have to go, so hurry back home, cos I miss you so"

When we were practicing this we were facing the sea.

Super emo moment of the week.

I was practically wishing I could just go home.

Anything to go home...

..other than swimming back of course.

Day 6

First IPPT Categorisation test.

It's probably been a few months since i've done the whole NAPFA thing
since I got Silver in Ngee Ann.

My main areas of concern were 2.4km and Standing Broad Jump because
during poly days I had to retake these 2 stations until I JUST passed

However after training abit before NS and the physical training after
enlistment..

..I got both a surprise and a shock.

I finally passed the silver requirement for my 2.4km comfortably within the 11 min range.

And my SBJ finally passed the silver range within the first try!

However, I couldn't do as many pull-ups as before.

I was super shocked when I couldn't pull more.

Not to mention demoralised. It became my new IPPT phobia.

I had alot to catch up on in the next few weeks.

Day 10

First time we tried the SOC.

It's like an urban warfare Obstacle Course equivalent but I heard its newer
and much easier than the first one.

Low rope was the first obstacle I tried and DAMN was it hard.

I tried it before in Anglican High where the venture scouts taught us
how to do it.

But I totally forgot when I came to the low rope!

I cant imagine wearing full body armour carrying a rifle completing
the course under 6 mins.

The Apex ladder was the freakiest station. Walking up and down the ladder with nothing below you was no joke. But I managed to clear it without stopping.

Day 17

We had our Live Range test and practices today.

Its where we got to shoot live rounds and snap targets and calculate our marksmanship scores.

Never thought it'd be so difficult.

Not that i thought it was easy but I didnt expect i'd miss those few targets.

The entire day was damn tiring and we went to bed at around midnight.

Tomorrow is book out day!!

Day 18

BOOK OUT DAY!

Thought the day would be slower and more relaxed since we just finished one of our high key events (Live firing) the day before.

In the end training and stuff were squeezed into our schedule!

I was literally just pulling myself through the motion...hoping time would speed out.

I miss my home

I miss my family

I miss my loved ones.

I miss my phone (Lol)

Seeing my family when I came out of the bus to Pasir Ris, I was really happy.

...IM ACTUALLY BACK IN SINGAPORE.

Whitesands never looked so beautiful.

Even my house! It feels like ages since i've returned

I really dont feel like leaving this place again

Sigh

But I know I have to...

I will try my best NOT to get confined.

And try my best to earn early bookouts. I really want to.

; Stereotypes
By my age you've probably already been through 3 stages of education, and been through several work experiences.

At every stage you meet different groups of people.

These people seldom and rarely overlap to another stages' and probably don't see you alot after you leave

And for each and every one of these groups you are remembered differently, according to their memory of you then.

A stereotype, no matter how negative it is (ESPECIALLY, if its negative) STICKS to you.

Likka annoying leech.

Funny thing is...

...You're not the one that remembers them.

I'd like to say that my personality has changed throughout the years (hopefully for the better)

And im quite sure to different groups of people I had different first impressions and different eventual impressions.

I guess my most disturbing stereotype was in secondary school.

Having entered a prestigious SAP school I eventually realised I wasn't exactly the brightest of my batch even though I was doing reasonably well (Everyone just did better). Especially when I flung my prelims I think I kinda gave the impression im not the studious type.

Together with my hideous appearance, the dumb actions I tend to do (Like kicking soccer balls in a small room of breakable stuff) and everyone agreeing that I look and AM blur, I feel...that I was given the stereotype that I'm quite slow and prone to make mistakes. Especially to my batch people the same age as me.

I dont know. Everytime when i'm out with them, I still get the feeling they still use me as the butt of jokes.

So quick with concluding that i'm wrong.

So quick in doubting and questioning a statement I made

So quick in firing out the dreaded "You haven't changed much have you?" when meeting people after a long time..

Each and every time I am genuinely taken aback and dumbfounded by their words...because after so long, I am no longer conditioned to that reaction.

It's so hard to shake out of your stereotype that it really hurts your pride at times. Like hey my current friends don't see me the same way.

I am afraid of stereotypes. I admit it. And unfortunately, I fall into one quickly.

I fear being tagged with a label that you have to live with for a long time.

I avoid meeting people I've left a good impression with often to prevent tarnishing it.

I hate being confronted by this stereotype again and again, and honestly it gets frustrating at times, no matter who the other party is.

It's like being dunked again and again into a pool of water.

No one likes it.

Photobucket

Anddddddd I'm back from Formula One 2011 :)
2 Days ago actually...

Been looking forward to this stint here since the last time I did it back in 2010.

First discovered it through a random website on the net and got through the interview.

The position I got in this SGP Entertainment Team is Transport Coordinator.

As you know, the other selling point about the Singapore Grand Prix is its lineup of artistes performing on the race nights itself.

Artistes ranging from random stilt walkers, to magicians, to A listers like Linkin Park these year are all flown into Singapore to perform for this big event.

So! Every event that flies in their performers will usually have to see to their transport arrangements, making sure they are picked up from the airport, get into their hotel, get to site for their performance, go back to the hotel to sleep, and leave the country. This is usually multi tasked by the liason officers (minders) for small events.

However for one of THIS scale. With 500 artistes being flown in and road security procedures being such an a**, a dedicated team of staff is needed for transport.

So yeah we make sure our artistes are

1) Picked up upon arrival
2) Sent safely to their hotel
3) On event days, reach their performance venues from the hotel, on time
4) On event days, reach the hotel after their performance, on time
5) Leave Singapore safely and happily at the end of everything.

Although it seems like quite an easy task.......

....Its NOT

It's not as simple as sending people to and fro on taxis or getting someone to be a personal driver for them.

We've got hundreds of artistes, and only a few permitted vehicles given by our outsourced transport company have the 'permission' to enter the sites. And the schedules have to be planned nicely and in sync in order to get our artistes to and fro on time, sometimes at unearthly hours.

Precisely because of that, the transport team is usually given hotel rooms! And we start very early wayyyy before the event so we get paid more as well :P:P

The other jobs are actually Artiste Minders and the Hospitality Team.

Artiste Minders are the liason officers for the artiste, they bring them around the site, help them get whatever they need and make sure they keep to their schedule. They also work closely with us to organise their artiste's transport arrangements.

I applied for this at the start actually, cos I was really into Customer Service and it's quite cool to be a foreign artiste's only point of contact. However I was put into Transport cos of my experience interning at Changi Airport (Not that it helped much actually)

While i still look forward to Minding an artiste, I realise you don't always get the nice ones and you can potentially be stuck with some snobbish ones that create hell for you throughout the event. PLUS. No hotel stay :P

Hospitality Team stays on site at the performance venue itself. I havent really seen much of these people cos I don't work with them often. They basically have to make the artistes comfortable when they reach their performance venue and see to all their needs and wants while they are getting ready to perform. (Like getting them water, or tidying up the hospitality area)

It's too bad I won't be able to work for the 2012 Formula One event cos of National Service.. but I hope it'll be extended longer and that the same awesome people are still working for it! I don't mind recommending my friends for interviews for any of the above positions so contact me nearer to August next year if you want to :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And SO! I was given the awesome chance again to start work on 20th September and end work on 27th September. 7 days 6 nights at the awesome Swissotel The Stamford. (Complete with Buffet Breakfast every morning) I'm practically a guest at the hotel.

Highlights of my stay here are obviously the A-list pick ups and random encounters with them! Was there at the G Dragon TOP and Seungri pick up from Terminal 3. Shocking that there wasn't a crowd actually. But just enough turned up when they landed around 1am. Star struck obviously. None of the staff joined the main artistes in their vehicles but followed behind in other vehicles. There were police outriders (Those on motorbikes escorting) as well so the whole journey to their hotels looked pretty much like a movie scene haha.

At the hotel all of them hung around the lobby to get their accreditation settled and that's where I really got close to the entire entourage. I had the SGP pass on and was helping out so I just introduced myself to them when I could. Had brief polite handshakes with GD and TOP and some other korean dancers with them.

Somehow it really felt like the Adam Lambert crew last year but only in Korean this time lol.

After that we realised in the midst of the hastened pick up, one of the members of the entourage accidentally brought back an extra luggage (Someone's else's) and we had to send the luggage back to the airport later on lol.

I also saw Rick Astley when he was about to go on site (Really cool guy) Saw Shaggy at breakfast, and saw Charice when she was arriving at the basement from site. (Shook her hand too)

Words cant describe how it's like being star struck haha. But through this event (just like last year), after having liased with these celebrities on a personal level, I've become a fan of some but lost interest in others...Lol dont think I can say why.

Other than that! Met some really awesome people at F1.

Many of the minders are really nice people, although only knew more abt them after the event ended. Got to know some of the performing artistes as well. All very nice people some of them from really humble backgrounds.

Even got to know some of the Police Officers and Security Guards, hopefully next time they won't catch me if I do something illegal HAHA.

This was the 3rd highlight of my holidays. And it has come to an end.

Just like that.

But it has been damn memorable. All the nights walking to the Floating Platform to hang out, talking to random people near the hotel and laughing at silly antics by colleagues.

Till next time, F1 :)

; Starhub Love Tail 2011
Okay i've been hearing about this competition again and again through the Radio and bloggers around Singapore. It's Starhub's Love Tail competition and you can view it right here!

So yeah basically it's about Starhub's mascot dog, Sparky (Yes that dog that ate the ringing phone a few years ago in their commercials) who spotted this pretty Poodle somewhere in Singapore and he really wants to find her cos it was love at first sight. So yeah this is actually quite a genius marketing technique Starhub has come up with. They even have an app that you can download to play a game to solve clues that bring you closer to the Grand Prize S$10,000.

I woke up at 5am to join this 'amazing race' style competition.

Correction, I never woke up. I didn't sleep at all.
Honestly, I cant consider myself excited for this or anything. Its just that for some crazy reason, when I was doing research to solve clues for this comp adrenaline got into my system. It's that hormone that makes you more alert than usual, perform better than usual, etc. It's the WORSE thing to have when you're trying to sleep.

I don't know bout the rest, but I ALWAYS get it the day before i'm going overseas. Probably cos i'm excited. But not for this competition -.-

So this race for me was quite a failure for me honestly. I went alone (yeah, couldnt find people cos its so last minute) and I kept going to the wrong places. (Some were my fault)

I mean, at one point I was at Resorts World Sentosa. Wtf moment for me seriously.

But in the end I did complete the race and got some goodie bags and other consolation stuff.

Anyway, I'll post some of the clues here, and you can try to see if you can solve it :) you need to think of PLACES in Singapore. Most/All of them in the town area (Realised after awhile)

Clue #1
Somewhere between a rock and the edge of emptiness, our bulldog lady walks. (Bulldog lady is just a character in this game)

Clue #2
Our street artist is in a small park drawing a sketch of a big park.

Clue #3
Skill is not required to find where our game store owner is. Ready, on two, go!

Clue #4
Good news, the poodle's escaped.

Try solving them haha. I'll probably post the answers tomorrow.

; Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay
You guys have gotta see this!

Kitchen Nightmares is like this reality show where Gordon Ramsay helps to save really run down and hopeless restaurants and gives them a facelift.

This is one episode where Gordon Ramsay visits 'Fiesta Sunrise' a Mexican themed restaurant where the food is as hopeless as it's exterior.

Definitely got to see this. Pause the blog songs and watch it. Worth your time.

Okay so now we know the restaurant manager/Stepdad (The erm fat mexican guy) Vic, is a real loser, we can all the more expect to see his ass kicked by Gordon Ramsay.

Lol this is really funny. Another restaurant's canopy outside your own shop? And this guy Vic is obviously lazy and such a miser. Pasting over the old restaurant's name?

Gordon Ramsay is smart enough not to continue eating more of the food (You'll know why later) And the only good part of the meal was the drinks. Haha well put bluntly.

So that guy Vic's really wasting his step daughter and wife's money in this sad excuse of a restaurant, and he dares to say they're picking on him. Seriously he deserves it.

This is making me sick. Love how they transition the video with footages of the customers eating happily outside. You gotta be kidding me. Food prepared yesterday, no, actually last Friday? Yuck, and we find our Kopitiam toilets disgusting.

I got no idea how this manager turns a blind eye to these stuff. It's not only embarrassing, I don't think he eats in his own restaurant! And the chefs he employed. They're all standing at the back speechless, looking and knowing they're in deep shit when this gets out.

So now this failure of a 'head of household' is really getting his ass handed to him. I can't imagine being in his position, everything is crashing down on him, all the skeletons he hid in the closet are tumbling out in plain sight.

Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse. COCKROACHES. YUCK. So many of them! On the plates! How do you turn a blind eye to these disgusting critters crawling over your plates?

So now they really realise the calibre of the chefs they have. They'd be sacked immediately if they were in any other restaurant.

What a makeover! Don't you just love these scenes? Although I really don't think that Vic deserves that much help, I think another problems lies in the chefs in the kitchen.

"How the fuck do we burn nachos?" hahahahaha

Angels are probably singing in this guy's head right now. People actually complimenting the food, Mayor visits and all...It's almost like he's dreaming probably.

And yes they finally did something to Grill 303. Lol. Man this episode featuring Fiesta Sunrise has been really entertaining. I just love how Gordon Ramsay kicks Vic's ass. Makeover shows are awesome, especially Extreme Makeover -House Edition-.

I think there are definitely lessons we can take away from this episode.

1) NEVER marry someone like that. If you sense something wrong, bail the hell out of that relationship.

2) Know your food well. You don't want to stumble into some random diner and unknowingly eat chicken goo and cockroach eggs.

3) Pest Exterminators are your best friends.

4) If everyone knows you're that effing lazy and useless, don't give people around you an attitude and tell them not to tell you what to do. You need to be told.

Haven't been blogging much lately.

Okay, correction,

Haven't been blogging at all lately..

Not that I've been particularly busy for that matter...but wait actually, its precisely because I haven't been busy!

Absolutely nothing to talk about. Life's great, but nothing interesting I can put into words (just a hint of laziness)

And lol its really funny how my blog views are so realistic. Post on facebook about a new post and I get 150+ views a week. (Average 20+ a day) Not publicise anything, it's down drastically to 30 a week (7 of that probably from me) but nevertheless thank you to those 23 people who check back every now and then for updates :)

Lol not that I'm a glutton for attention, mind you, but hey everybody with a public blog likes writing for an audience if you get what I mean? C'mon, personal diary on the net?..Really?

Been watching quite a bit of Gordon Ramsay and Hell's Kitchen lately. (Mostly thanks to Fion)

I know nuts about cooking, honestly, but I know a good dish when I see one. And something about that chef really intrigues me. He's like the Simon Cowell (Dated metaphor, I know) of F&B, and probably the only person who doesn't make me cringe with the word "Fuck." (Yes I don't like hearing it for no apparent reason or if it totally need not be said.) But add in his british accent, crude sense of humour and several well-timed situations, you get a helluva entertaining conversation.

He's mean, straightforward and rude at times, but he's got that extensive resume to back it up. And that's smth you gotta respect. I mean, if someone that successful and talented were to shout at you (and you know he/she isn't shy to give you recognition when u deserve it) you just have to suck it up.

But gee doesn't that oddly sound like a typical boss in your workplace? Okay scratch that, yes you can get pissed.

Briefings and site walkabouts have come into full swing these weeks for Formula One. As usual, im stoked to be in the presence of celebrities, and awesome staff welfare. But I guess here comes the problems with expectations eh?

The first time's always the best, you get exposed to so many new amazing things and create so much of those memories you wish you can literally sow into pillows and hug to sleep. You so so so look forward to the next time, expectantly tugging along those pillows of memories, eyes gleaming and wide with excitement like a little child, and you get slapped in the face with those pillows cos its not the same anymore. Best case scenarios : Your first Sleepover with your friends. The best CCA leisure camp you've been to. First day at work/school.

So! I'm not gonna expect too much. Like whatever. Something I remember fondly from the previous year's gonna be taken away for sure. (As of today I already learnt that the Padang stage is NOT facing my hotel lol)

However save for a few unmentionable staff this year's intake of artist minders etc look really friendly and quite a fun bunch? Oh and I always seem like a total stuck up ass when I'm around new people, I don't know why it always happens when I don't know how to approach and introduce myself, but I can never hold that impression for too long anyway :) I think all my existing friends know why -.-

; The Sims 3
Today's post is gonna be quite an interesting one!

(Please scroll down till you see a BIG BOLDED "OKAY" word if you don't want to go through all the boring history stuff about The Sims that i'm about to go into)

The Sims by EA Games has recently launched it's newest Facebook App, "Sims Social" that actually won the "Best Browser Game" award by Gamescom 2011.

Of course you'd already known or heard of this game because you're suddenly receiving lotsa requests from your Facebook friends to 'Help them build a room', 'give them cheese', or whatever hilarious things you can give in that game..

The Sims was actually released in the Year 2000 (I'm in Primary 3!) and it pretty much caught the world by storm.
I remember back then it was a game that seemed wayyyyy beyond its time..with brilliant visuals, interactions and unique game play, allowing you to Create a Sim with any look you want and lead it through its miserable life. I totally got addicted to it, and I was playing the expansion pack The Sims Hot Date, where they started adding all the romantic additions.

In 2004, The Sims 2 was released.
I didn't actually play this version much to my amazement. I was in Secondary 1 and I think I was too caught up with studies and CCA stuff to pay attention to gaming. Lots of new stuff were added.

It became a full 3D interface and they made many improvements to the entire gameplay. Like how there are now 6 life stages (Baby, Toddler, Teenager, Young Adult, Adult, Elderly) and the Sims now have aspirations to grow up to. Genetics are also incorporated, where the babies of the sims can actually take after the combined looks of their parents (Alot of frustration, this one. Ugly..ugly babies)

AND just when we thought they couldn't get any better, BOOM. The Sims 3 came out in 2009.This version is unbelievable. I started to play The Sims 3 and I chased all their expansion packs.

In 2009 the technology used in digital gaming was so advanced it's almost amazing we got that far!

The HD Graphics now are so clear and vibrant that when we look at our old games, WE CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE PIXELS (VERY CLEARLY). Yes it's that bad lol!

3D imaging rose to unbelievable levels compared to the year 2000. Characters are so lifelike there are actually models of famous celebrities made into a 3D format. (Think, David Beckham in FIFA 2009)

And The Sims 3 didn't fail to impress. Create a Sims is now a much more rewarding (And time consuming) experience.!

They have divided the complex 3D human body into so many segments, each with several individual sliders, that you as an amateur can actually try your luck in creating an image of yourself or a celebrity in the game! (I failed)

And IF you face a situation like what happened to me (I failed), you can download Sims created by other geniuses (With ALOT more time on their hands).Jake Gyllenhal (Love and Other Drugs)

Young Michael Jackson (Michael Jackson)

Paris Hilton

Avril Lavigne

These are the really good ones that I don't have to state a name for you to know who they are. (But I still did)

One of the best parts of the Sims 3 is the fact that you can customise virtually everything in the game compared to the other versions.

Hate the hairs they offer you? Upload your own hair!
Hate the colour designs they offer you? Upload your own textures and designs!
Hate the shirt designs? Upload your own shirt design!

AND SO! Sims Social actually made me feel like playing The Sims 3 again, plus I just got the latest expansion pack The Sims 3 Generations. Okay here are the Sims 3 Expansion packs and what they have!

The Sims 3 (Original Game)
Yeahhhhh...it's the original base game.

The Sims 3 World Adventures
This is really one of the MOST epic additions. With this expansion pack there are 3 new countries introduced into Sims 3. These 3 countries are modeled after China, France and Eygpt. The Sims now have an option to travel overseas for a vacation! And no it's not just some boring excursion where you go to a new place, eat, drink, sleep and play in a new environment. You actually get to enter Pyramids and Tombs to collect treasures and fight mummies. It's THAT detailed, with puzzles to solve and booby traps to avoid.

The Sims 3 Ambitions
This expansion pack also brought the game to an entire new level. We all know Sims can have jobs and when they go to work you're actually left in an awkward situation where the time fast-forwards and you're staring at an empty house looking stupid.

NOW, although you still have to see time fast forward and stare at an empty house looking stupid, your work doesnt end there! There are actually things called 'Opportunities' that come randomly in your job, and you are required to use your 'after work time' to complete those opportunities for an added money boost or job boost. So for example, a Private Investigator might need to travel to Al Simhara (Their Eygpt) or Shang Simla (Their China) to look for clues and so on!

The Sims 3 Late Night
With this expansion, the nightlife scene is brought into Sims 3. You can now go Clubbing in Sims 3 (No joke) They also added in stuff like elevators.

With this expansion, they also added a Celebrity feature, which gives your sims a chance to be a celebrity. (There are 5 star ratings, 5 being a Super celeb) You get sent free gifts, buy things for free, and people ask you for autographs.!

The Sims 3 Generations
Okay this one adds on to the family part of the game, where you can now form memories, and more focus is put on the children aspect of the game. (You don't only just have to go to school, like previous versions) You can take part in Prom Nights and also after school activities! Its scary how close to real life it's getting.

OKAY(You found it)

Enough of the story behind The Sims!

I will now introduce you to my house and Sims in The Sims 3! (Its gonna be really messy cos I don't know where to start)

At any point in time you want to zoom in for a better look just click on the pictures.

Ok firstly I have 3 sims in this household. They can be seen all around the pictures. There are 2 girls (One is actually an identical clone of the other LOL, which is a feature of the expansion pack Generations) The other is a guy.

Photobucket

This is my garden! Where I plant all my different kinds of grapes, fruits and rare plants that are needed for my wine making (Called Nectar making in the game)

In the background you will see one of my Sims in my Garage.

Photobucket

The graphics are damn good right. This is one of my cars, the Margaret Vaguester. One of the fastest cars in the game. (And yes obviously for this particular game profile I actually used cheats haha)

Photobucket

Beside it is actually The Empire Eidolon, another dam expensive car belonging to the male Sim. Those picture frames on the wall are actually taken by a DSLR in the game (Came with the World Adventures expansion) With the DSLR I can actually take pics from my Sim's point of view and frame them up randomly in the house.

Photobucket
In between the Garden and the Garage is an elevator that brings you down to the Basement Levels of the game (Yes you can now create basements in Sims 3!)

Photobucket

Lol this is the erm...Build Mode view of my basements. (Don't ask why a coconut tree is sticking down into the basement..) I can actually go down up to 3 levels into the ground.

Photobucket

The first official basement level is sort of my ermm...'Gallery'. Where I intend to exhibit all the framed up photos of my household.

Photobucket

Its amazing how the Sims 3 begins to go into the detailed stuff and making everything customizable. I mean who wldve thought you can actually do such things in a game? It has come a LONGGGGGGGGG way since it's predecessors.

Photobucket

This is the 'Wine Brewery' (It's called Nectar making to them actually) So basically I read that it's best that the wine making facility is located at the lowest floor possible, hence I set it here. Here you can see two machines on the right for making the wine, and the racks on the left for placing my 'Done' bottles. (Obviously I anticipated I'll be making alot) Haha.

Photobucket

Close up...So what happens is that my Sim will throw the ingredients for a particular wine (Different recipes different ingredients, hence my Garden upstairs) into that brown wooden tub, and they will literally STEP on it and grind it with their bare feet like how you see french people do it. (Didn't take a screen shot aww) The machine then processes the juice and bottles it. :P

Oh yeah and that's my male character. Let's name him Ah Boy for the sake of this post.

Photobucket

What's a Sims House without the pool! As you can see, again, Sims has come a long way in terms of Pool creation as well. Now the shapes can be customised, and the graphics of the water is just amazing.

Photobucket

I actually have two threadmills by the pool for them to exercise. And oh! That's my female character 1, let's call her Ah Girl. It's almost difficult to tell the difference between Ah Girl and her clone

Photobucket

Ah Boy and Ah Girl in the pool with a new Pool Interaction "Splash." Lol the pool seems abit too deep for comfort.

Photobucket

Andd my imagination got the best of me. Decided it'd be DAMN cool to have a rock band set up in the middle of the pool! Such a sense of achievement when I got it done.

Photobucket

Tadahh The Band is playing. Ah Girl on Guitar, Ah Boy on Drums and Gridgirl on Piano. (You'll know why she's called that later)

Photobucket

And this is the Hot Tub area beside the pool. Back in the Sims 1 period it was only a jacuzzi, now it's a freaking flowing hot tub.

Photobucket

And introducing the Living Room! Here Ah Boy and Ah Girl are playing some random Sim created game called ShuffleBoard (Amazing details, the puck actually moves accordingly) While Gridgirl is playing the 'PS3 console'
Photobucket

Yes this is how close you can alter your Point of view to see your Sims. And the games on the screen are not still images like in Sims 1. It's really like a high def gaming experience with the rugby players running around.

Photobucket

And quite a few games too! This skateboarding game is actually a Real EA Games game so I think they're doing promotion for it through Sims 3 haha. (Smart)

Photobucket

And now she's playing some 'Brother Bear'-like game.

And here is......the reading area! Looks comfortable?

Connected to the Living Room is actually the Kitchen, where Ah girl here does all the cooking.

And the dining table is just behind the fireplace, for them to all sit tgt and eat.

Photobucket

Ok this Aerial view of my house seems quite weird cos of the wall cutoff here and there. But yeah the whole concept of the 2nd level bedroom is such that it gives the Living Room alot of space above it.

I really like this fish tank thingi! Its the only thing separating the bedroom from outside. Those fishes are added into the tank myself. Theres a new Fishing Skill in Sims 3 that allows you to fish for different kind of fishes. (Sharks, Koi, Clownfish and Dragonfish) So once I catch them I will bring them home and have a choice to eat them or put them into my fish tank or pond.

Anddd this is Gridgirl. Hahahaha. Found the attire quite amusing especially now it's approaching the Formula One Season in Singapore. This attire actually came with the Fast Lane expansion pack, which features racing stuff. (I can even buy a F1 car)

Photobucket

And this area is the Patio area outside my house (The walls are down cos of the view setting, it's not a big hole in the wall haha) Here I have Ah girl creating Potions via a Chemistry table and Gridgirl teaching Ah boy how to mix drinks (It's a skill that you can learn in The Sims 3 that came with the Late Night expansion) Basically used for bartending and creating awesome drinks. And yes with Sims 3, Mastering the Logic Skill allows you to teach skills to other Sims (Without them having to go through it!)

Photobucket

Tadahh Gridgirl doing her job. This is one of the cooler cars in the game. The Vistoso Speed Machine. (How do they come up with these names? -.-)

With the addition of World Adventures a new skill called "Martial Arts" is introduced, and basically your Sim can learn how to fight with Kungfu. This is learnt in the China country. With every skill level you increase you actually get a new coloured belt (Like in taekwondo) Ah Girl here is Level 10 (Mastered) Lol. Ah girl is a ridiculous name im sorry.

Photobucket

And with Generations expansion pack you get to create tree houses! These are mainly for kids to play with and since Ah Girl is already a Young Adult she cant play in it anymore. But the adults can actually WooHoo in it with another Sim (I think alot of people are like giving the O.O face now.) Yes now other than the bed, you can Woohoo in Elevators and showers too. (Lol awkward)

Photobucket

And this is the view from my house. (One of the more expensive build-from-scratch lots) This is the town that's offered in the Late Night expansion. You can now stay in Skyscraper apartments as well. (New feature)

Photobucket

Can you believe this club is in my house? It's actually connected to my patio lol. I converted the lower floor into a nightspot. So with the Late Night expansions you can create such clubs from a scratch, complete with lighting and effect machines.

Photobucket

Gridgirl is a Level 10 Mixologist so she has an option to Manage the Bar. Here she is making a drink for Ah boy lol. Idk what to use for the walls so I actually covered it all up with Mirrors to make it seem like theres alot of people and not only just 3 people hahahahahaa.

Photobucket

And LOL there's a shisha machine in Sims! (Ah boy is getting high at the back) But they phrase it as "Blowing Bubbles." How suggestive haha. It's definitely Shisha haha.

Photobucket
The lighting here's 'Black Light' so even the faces look weird. Now they're all Shisha-ing together. LOL ridiculous scene. The bubbles even have flavours like Pineapple, Mint, Strawberry and so on.

I realise Sims 3 is a really great place to express yourself. The 'customizability' of everything here + the awesome camera angles makes it easy to direct your own scenes and stories. But it's VERY tedious I must say, and time flies very fast (in real life) when you're actually doing up the stuff. But it's a really great sense of achievement when you're done with it.

JUST LIKE THIS LONG POST.

BYE!
