; Recommendation for today...Younha!
(Youtube heavy content. Please take time to listen if you wanna appreciate)
I actually got this album by this Korean singer like a few years...out of sheer randomness. Maybe because I really liked the song that was playing in the shop, which was by her.
Turns out its one of those random buys you'll never regret.
I really identified with the..erm..genre of songs she sings?
Like occasionally theres those emo ballads and then theres the really super zai rock songs. (I like good non scream-for-the-sake-of-screaming rock songs by bands like Simple Plan)
Here are some of her recent releases, which I really liked.
Please Take Care of My Boyfriend (내 남자친구를 부탁해)
She's got this really strong voice, and you can really feel the emotions in the songs itself.
Broke Up Today (오늘 헤어졌어요)
One Shot
One of my favourite rock songs from her. It definitely sounds better from the album but its quite cool that she did so well Live on her Music Bank Comeback stage.
Her debut and musical journey was not one without obstacles.
One would think that with this crazy set of vocals, she should and could definitely be a singer.
However she actually went through as many as 20 auditions in her days in Korea, failing all of them, citing that many of the judges felt that her 'looks' weren't pretty enough...at least not commercially.
She could also sing in Japanese, and subsequently her japanese songs and singles were heard, and used for popular japanese anime's like BLEACH, known for often using strong rock songs as their opening and ballad songs for their ending themes.
From there, she became more and more recognised, and begun giving live performances. She even became the 2nd Korean after BoA to break into the Oricon Chart's top 20. Alot of her singles and albums did not do very well due to lack of promotion and funding I guess..
But back in Korea now, she has a strong base and her later albums "Part B - Growing Season", "Lost in Love [EP]" and together with her new single "One Shot" have some of my most favourite songs from her. (And I was lazy enough not to hear her other songs yet.)
One of her songs, "It's Beautiful" was released on my Birthday! Hahaha. And when I was in Korea this yeah I realised it was used in the commerical for LANEIGE.
She also sings very well for duets. Here's one with Dongwan from Shinhwa (One of the past popular Kpop boybands)
Love Love Love with Epik High
And more recently, a duet with Kim Bum Soo (I don't know who he is, but sounds like a pretty good singer as well.) But this duet is really quite awesome
Check out her other songs! She's got a really awesome resume of songs.
I'll end off with her cover of "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" sung on Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook
